Australian Bird Photography

Wild moments. Beautiful birds. Photographed in their natural environment.

Australia is home to some of the world's most extraordinary birdlife, from brilliantly coloured parrots and tiny bush birds to majestic birds of prey and the diverse species inhabiting our coastlines and wetlands.

My bird photography is about more than simply capturing a species. I love waiting for those fleeting moments of character, behaviour, colour and connection that make every encounter unique.

Bird photography - Crimson Chat (Female), Onslow, Western Australia

While out exploring a new area of arid bushland along Twitchen Road Onslow, I heard the call of the Painted Finches. Excitedly I endevoured to follow them through spiky Spinkifex country. I paused to listen when this beauty landed right beside me! Quietly with my heart racing, I gently lifted my camera hoping to do so fast enough and calmly enough, without scaring her off. She remained still long enough for me to capture her, as I gently moved just enough to capture the pink colour of the famous Pilbara Mulla Mulla wildflower in the background.
