For years, I had admired the extraordinary aerial photography of some of my favourite landscape photographers. Their beautiful images of Australia's coastlines, with their incredible colours, patterns and natural formations, inspired me to dream of capturing these landscapes from above myself.
When we planned a holiday to Shark Bay in Western Australia in March 2018, I knew I couldn't miss the opportunity to experience this remarkable coastline from the air.
I chartered a small aircraft, excited to see for myself the landscapes that had inspired so many beautiful photographs. I hoped to capture some of those incredible colours and coastal formations, while also discovering unique compositions and natural abstracts that I could make my own.
Nothing quite prepared me for the beauty of Shark Bay from above.
The brilliant turquoise waters, sweeping sandbanks and delicate patterns created by nature were simply breathtaking. Everywhere I looked, the landscape revealed another extraordinary composition.
Nature's Watercolour was captured during that unforgettable flight on 31 March 2018.
The gentle curves of the sandbanks and the beautiful shades of turquoise reminded me of a watercolour painting, with nature itself as the artist.
This photograph represents more than a beautiful coastal landscape. It captures the excitement of exploring somewhere I had long admired, the inspiration I found in other photographers' work, and the joy of discovering my own artistic interpretation of this remarkable place.
