During an unforgettable aerial photography adventure over Shark Bay in Western Australia on 31 March 2018, I was captivated by the extraordinary colours, patterns and natural formations of this remarkable coastline.
Inspired by the beautiful aerial photography of some of my favourite landscape photographers, I had chartered a small aircraft to experience Shark Bay from above and discover my own unique compositions.
Pastel Waters was captured not far from the locations of my other Shark Bay photographs, yet this particular scene had a beauty all of its own.
What immediately caught my eye were the delicate pastel tones, subtle textures and unusual cup-like shapes formed by the sweeping sandbanks. The soft turquoise water, gentle blush tones and intricate natural patterns created an almost dreamlike landscape.
From above, these beautiful formations reminded me of a delicate abstract painting, with nature effortlessly blending colour, shape and texture into something truly extraordinary.
I was particularly drawn to the simplicity of the composition and the way the curved sandbanks appeared to cradle the surrounding water.
Pastel Waters went on to receive a Silver Award in a photography competition, making this photograph an especially treasured part of my fine-art collection.
For me, it is a beautiful reminder that some of nature's most remarkable works of art can only truly be appreciated from a different perspective.
