Photographed from the air along the remote Pilbara coastline, Turquoise Tides reveals a landscape shaped by water, earth and colour.
I captured this photograph during an aerial photography flight from Onslow, following the coastline towards Exmouth. Before the flight, I had spent time exploring the region on satellite maps, fascinated by the tidal creeks and abstract patterns hidden within the landscape and curious to see how they would appear from above.
This small tidal creek immediately caught my eye.
Turquoise water winds between the mangroves and across the shallow tidal flats, where the brilliant blues of the ocean meet the warm orange and red tones of the Pilbara earth. From the air, those colours combine to create beautiful shades of purple — transforming the landscape into something almost painterly.
It was a perspective I hadn't seen before, and exactly the kind of unexpected landscape I had hoped to discover from the air.
Turquoise Tides has since become one of my most popular photographs with local collectors.
